About

King Chulalongkorn opened Siriraj Hospital on 26 April 1888 with 50 beds, and the country's first medical school started there two years later. Today it is the main hospital of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, which lists more than 2,000 beds, 69 operating rooms and around 4.9 million outpatient visits a year.

The faculty reports a third consecutive Advanced Hospital Accreditation (Advanced HA) and disease-specific certifications for liver transplantation, stroke, knee and hip replacement, acute leukaemia, diabetes and geriatric hip fracture care. The main hospital's phone line is in Thai only, and it does not book appointments for new patients, who are seen on a walk-in basis.

Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital (SiPH), a 402-bed private hospital set up by the faculty in 2010 near Thonburi railway station, offers appointment-based care with a 24-hour emergency clinic and an English-language website. It reports a fourth consecutive JCI reaccreditation in 2023.

Hospitals

Siriraj is a very large public teaching hospital run by Mahidol University, with more than 2,000 beds and close to five million outpatient visits a year. It works as a referral centre for complex care and holds disease-specific certifications for liver transplantation, stroke, joint replacement, acute leukaemia, diabetes and geriatric hip fracture care.

The public hospital takes new patients on a walk-in basis only, and its phone line is in Thai, so visitors who want an appointment usually go through Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital (SiPH), the faculty's 402-bed private wing near Thonburi railway station. SiPH's Emergency Clinic, on the 1st floor of Zone A, is open 24 hours with emergency physicians and an ambulance crew.

It may suit patients with a serious or unusual condition who want a large academic centre, and who are ready to use the private SiPH wing for faster, booked care.
